The first sail down to Playa Pagapeyo on Saturday the 2n of Novermber went quick and without problems. However we took a while to leave and had some issues leaving the marina with strong winds pushing us onto the pontoon and with no bow thrusters it was a bit tricky to turn out boat the right way around to leave but with some help of our neighbours we made it. We anchored in the dark just off the shore of the southern end of Lanzarote and went to bed as soon as possible.
Sleeping in the bow cabin, Franzi and I heard some weird scraping sounds at night and were worried about the anchor dragging or chain getting caught, but we couldn’t really see or do anything in the dark anyways.
We woke up and found the anchor chain wrapped around some rocks and we were stuck. We tried to free it by driving over it a few times from different directions but in the end, skipper Thomas had to go dive on it. Luckily the water was only about 10 meters deep so he managed to free dive down to it and free it far enough so we could loosen it with the anchor winch and eventually pull it free!
Today we were going to sail from Lanzarote as far down the next island of Fuerteventura as possible. However, there was no wind in the morning so after we had crossed the cap between the islands we decided to stop behind the Isla lobos, which looked similar to La Graciosa, and go for a swim and snorkel. The water was very clear and beautiful but we did not see many fish. But it was a good opportunity to test Franzi’s Gopro.
Back on the boat we finally found some wind and put our gennaker Mr.Pink out. This is a sail specifically for light winds up to a max of 15 knots. We were flying along under the sun and with almost no waves which made for very smooth sailing and a very nice first day at sea.
